IME, 568A and B are the most common, and as long as you are consistent, it
doesn't matter which you choose.  The signals _do_ care about being paired
together, but _don't_ care what the colour of the pairs are...

If you do have any equipment with punchdown connectors at one end, you
might need to stick to their standard.

I've always used 568A, and if you need to make up a crossover cable, you
can use A at one end, B at the other (ISTR that's why 'B' was established).
Crossover cables are used to connect 2 10BaseT ports without a hub.

Dunno about USOC- could that be a Cat-3 or Cat-4 wiring standard?
