Ian,

When we were in the UK I did the same as you although my diy skills are
not too hot as my wife will testify. In our new home in Holland I have to
say I daren't even think about making holes... that's why I'm seriously
thinking about going wireless - certainly for PC comms and some audio. I
have got a few 'blank' sockets with cable pipes running back to a closet
sized room but the are not that many. I'm seriously considering ripping
out all the phone and RF cabling and replacing it with CAT5. I'll then use
some sort of Phone-2-CAT5 adapter and Keiths KAT5's (when they appear ;-)
). There will be 4 VCRs in the closet which will plug into the KAT5s
supplying 5 different locations with an individual signal. IR would be fed
from the rooms through the KAT5s to the appropriate VCR. Isn't it amazing
how much we're going to be relying of Keith's KAT5s... ;-)

A.

Just wondering,

How long do you folks take on your "disruptive" projects?

In my last flat I created a veritabe DIY-Hell for my wife, by having holes
in walls, unfinished wiring, switches hanging from walls etc...

I have determined not to do this in our new house and so far (three years
in) I am doing "sort-of-okay" Whilst I never leave works in an
unsafe
state,
I always seem to run out of time to complete a job and tidy it off, then
it
will be a week or so (usually the next weekend) before I can get back to
it.

At the moment, I am recabling like a maniac replacing my "one cat-5
to
each
plate" (which with hindsight was utterly inadequate even on day zero)
With
a rather more ambitious 4-Cat5+Video Cable to each plate, also increasing
my
locations from seven to about 16 (including sensor wiring). And it's
taking
>ages< I have holes in walls, holes in floors, various stages of
plastering, cables bursting from the walls all over the shop...

Please tell me (and my wife!) that I am NOT the only one!!!! please? :)

Ian.
