I can see you have the xener and resistor on the receiver. Check you are
getting 5v at the input to the TSOP with a volt meter. On mine I have this
and .7 and 2.5 to 3 volts on the output depending whether there is IR
present or not (can't remember whch way round but I think the low reading
is
no IR). This can be tested independently of the Tx circuit.

Is the xener the correct way round? As I recall the black line goes to the
resistor and TSOP leg. It looks to me as though yours is the other way
round. It's difficult to make out on the picture plus the connections
underneath could change everything.

As for the Tx. Check every track about three times. When I made my first
one
outside of the plugboard it took three runs through to check averything and
correct the errors. I haven't managed to blow up anything recently so there
is hope. Attached is a Tx diagram in Word (8K so hopefully no-one minds)
which mirrors the layout you have on the board (correct at time of going to
press as they say). It is no different to Nigels but a little easier to
follow as everything is in the 'right' place or at least fairly close from
what I can see i.e. pinouts on the IC. I have also included a summary
(unfinished) of the mails that have flown about on this topic (17K so again
hopefully no-one minds) . There is lots of fault finding stuff in there
which may prove useful.

I also have PCB track layout diagrams which may help. If you want these
just
ask.

I'm still having a few probs with this,

appears to work fine, when power applied sits there with neither led or
IRLED illuminated, if I disconnect the receiver circuit both the led and
IRLED illuminate and stay lit.  I'm thinking I may of toasted the IR
receiver by connecting 12v to the receiver circuit, is there any way to
supply the receiver with 5v and the rest with the required 12v without
having to use two power supplies.

any suggestions or ideas much appreciated.
