ADSL ISPs

I've done my research, and thought I'd share.

The cheapest ISP I could find that offers a non-NAT non blocked USB
connection is www.freedom2surf.net. I did however find a couple of
drawbacks. The first is that their operation gives the impression that it
is
in the back of someone's garage, and the second is that I may be moving at
some stage next year. They like Openworld want all of the outstanding
rentals on termination. I also received mor than a few engaged tones when
trying to phone.

Next on the list is www.clara.net/dialup/adsl A much more professional
outfit. My call to their support department was answered on the second ring
at 7:00pm on Friday, which must be pretty close to peak time. Their service
is non-NAT non blocked. The web site doesn't mention the fixed IP, but I've
found out that if you call their business team after installation, they
will
assign a fixed IP for a one off fee of £25. Setup charge is the usual £150
+
VAT, and the monthly cahrge is £49.99 inclusive. If you move to a new house
during the initial 12 month period, and install ADSL at the new house, any
outstanding rentals will be waived.

I'm intending to use this with a Compaq wireless LAN, Wingate 4.1 (with the
new NAT/firewall plug in), a Win2k server, a Win2k client, and a Toshiba
Libretto notebook and a Compaq iPAQ.

I'll post a full review of all the kit in a couple of weeks or so.
