Chris,
The first question is "when will ADSL be available" - if the
answer's "Janu=
ary" then wait, if it's "December 2001", then get in Highway
for a year.
The last question: Yes a 486/66 can indeed run a Linux router, however,
you=
may find that the serial ports can't do justice to an external ISDN TA, an=
d a 486/66 is unlikey (impossible?) to have any PCI slots, so you may be
re=
duced to an ISA TA.
Personally, I would install Highway in the study, and run the ISDN signal
u=
p it on an extra CAT5. You do, sometimes, need access to reboot the
Highway=
wallbox from its mains adaptor, so you want to available, unless you use X=
-10 control of that mains socket ;-)
=A345 / month feels a lot!

Subject: [ukha_d] ISDN vs ADSL
Hi folks,
I have a question:
We are getting a PC for Christmas and I would like to use the=20
internet etc...
Should I get BT HomeHighway or wait for ADSL?
Ideally I would like to be able to use the phone at the same time as=20
the PC.
If I go HH should I get a TA or an ISDN router (do I need both?).
Eventually I would like to connect several Computers to a house LAN=20
and have internet access from any.
I also intend to get Comfort, whill this work OK with either HH or=20
ADSL?
I am hoping to keep the cost down so I thought I would go for BT's=20
Talk'n'Surf Together with HH, =A344.99 pm including free voice and data=20
calls evenings and weekends and some? free calls, apparently not =A313=20
worth as it was with just HH.
We don't have access to ADSL yet.
Also is there any problem with installing HH in the loft (node zero=20
to be) and running CAT5 to the study?
I have an old 486/66 with dual serial ports, could I use this as a=20
router/firewall (linux?) with a TA??
Thanks alot,
sorry for the barrage of questions.
Cheers,
Chris Williams
