For my purposes, the cost of a (sub)notebook is barely comparable, and one
would have a lot of disadvantages...

I don't need the full blown services of a PC - my 24x7 server handles all
that for me. It only needs to be an A4 TFT screen, light enough to hold,
with an RF network interface. Touch screen is nice, verging on essential.
The only software required is a web browser with multimedia capabilities.

Less is more.
