Happened across the AT&T research site looking for something else, and
found
some interesting HA related stuff.

ftp://ftp.uk.research.att.com/pub/docs/att/tr.92.1.pdf
details an Active
Badge system used to identify the location of people in an office or house.
The idea is appealing simple and uses a coded IR emitter as a wearable
badge. The house would then need at least one IR sensor per room to keep an
eye out for badges. Sounds almost feasible for people already considering
doing whole house IR... I've no idea whether commercial badges are
available.

Also of interest to people who have PCs/Servers that need remote access to
their desktops: http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/
- a sort of PC-Anywhere
equivalent except enormously better, and free. We've downloaded it and
tested it here and it's fantastic.
