I have one from Homebase which can do studs, wires and pipes(metal)

The stud detection is pretty good: works well enough to run cables with
impunity. the metal detection is good enough to find those metal pins
they use to secure the plasterboard to the studs and even found a
bizzare metal plate halfway up one of my walls that has no apparent
purpose..

the cable detector side of things is a bit unreliable though. If the
cable drops vertically from the switch it can get it, if it lies
against the far side of the wall (rather than against the plasterboard)
the device can't see it.  I suppose at that distance, you wouldn't be
drilling into it anyway, which is probably the point!
