Hi All,

Just seen this on our newsdesk......

The new face of children's watches

A child's watch which can open doors, turn on their favourite TV programmes
and help locate them if they get lost in a crowd is being developed by
France Telecom and watchmaker Xelia.

Communicating functions will be added to the watch made for young children
learning to tell the time.

The traditional watch hands are being replaced with easily recognisable
symbols representing daily activities - waking up, having breakfast,
leaving
for school, brushing teeth etc.

And simple interactivity will be provided between these watches and
wireless
phones, computers, TVs or their parents watches.

By pressing the face of the watch a child can trigger a ring or vibration
as
well as send a picture or voice message to an adult.

The watch will also give children controlled access to equipment in the
home - opening doors, turning on the TV at a specific time to a pre-set
channel and operating computers.

An initial prototype of the watch is expected to be ready by April 2001.

......when does Daddy's new watch appear :-)

Keith
