External PIR seemed rare and exspensive. I have used indoor PIR's sealed
with silcon inside around lens and around the case joint/cable entry. No
problems with rain.

The only problems is false trigers caused by the sun/clouds, not being a
problem for me as the PIR's indirectly control 500w halogen lamps used dusk
till dawn.
