It concerns me that I wouldn't have known if I wasn't running ZoneAlarm2...
I don't mind if an application wants to check for updates, providing:

1. I can switch it off
2. I know that it's happening e.g. a message box with "ACE is now
checking for a newer version"
3. If I want it to check 'silently' then I can - but by default it would
have to be 'noisy'.
