There is a little clear plastic bit in the middle of the front of the unit.
Pull this out with your nails or long nosed pliers and there is a screw
under it. From there on it pops off with a little shove towards the bottom.

I had the same experience and mine looks a little worse for wear after I
eventually found my way in.

I recently purchased a X10 RF PIR (MS13E).   Silly question - How do you
get
the battery cover off?  I have tried to carefully prise it off with a
screwdriver, but it doesn't want to budge.  Don't want to force anything in
case it brakes.
