TBO???
"The Bleeding Obvious" - (my specialist subject I might add)
If I'm not using the second IDE channel can I disable this then??
Yes, - each CHANNEL will use 1 IRQ. If you only have drives on a single IDE
channel, then disable the other channel in the BIOS - it's usually under
the
"Integrated Peripherals" section (or something like that).
Incidentally, It's not a good idea to mix different speed IDE/ATA devices
on
the same channel - the bus is then constrained to the speed of the slower
device, so If you put a nice fast ATA-33 hard disk, and a crappy old IDE
CDROM on the same channel, the disk performance will be crap!
However, IF this is the only way to get an IRQ free'd up, then what choice
do you have?
The one problem you might still have with this, is that the IDE channels
typically use IRQ's above 12. - Your serial port hardware may very well not
allow you to select that IRQ, so you might have to totally re-jig all your
hardware settings around to "move" the free IRQ to one that can
be assigned
to your serial port card. (mine only allows 3, 4, 5, or 7 to be assigned)
