They are different in that they are TRANSMITTERS Paul. If you are using a
HomeVision, CM12U etc your controller will know the lights are on too.
Isn't this what you wanted?

NO. You need mains rated momentary contact switches.

I have heard lots of complaints about the TM12U too. To be honest I'm not
using mine much so I can't comment. I have heard that it is being
re-designed without the built in appliance module as this is causing
problems.
