As you all know I love to rant about how .mp3 is ringing the death knell
(sp?) of real Hi-Fi. It is confession time - until five minutes ago I had
never heard an .mp3 track :)

I've just bought a CD-writer so thought I'd have a bit of a play.
Admittedly
the software I used isn't state of the art - I just used the "Save
As"
option in windows sound recorder. I just copied a track from a CD (Flesh
and
Blood from Mary Black's "On Holy Ground" which was a favourite
among Hi-Fi
journos in the early 90s), and converted it to a 56Kbit .mp3 track. I'm not
playing this through my Hi-Fi, with four power amps, big floor standing
speakers (and directional cables :)), just a Windows pc with Cambridge
SoundWorks 30 quid speakers.

My verdict: I don't know how you guys put up with it - it is awful!

'nuff said

Tim.
