Nigel, Xantech makes the ZPR68-10, a 6 zone, 10 source remote preamp.  I
think most of its features are IR controllable.  It also has an rs-232 port
that can be used to control it.  I'm not sure if it's got all the audio
matrix features you need, but it should at least be close.  You can check

I must warn you, it's a bit expensive at about $2000 USD (list price, maybe
you can get a "deal" for around $1600?)
