I'm beginning to think I should write a thesis on door entry systems :-)
Russ, I hope this info isn't too late for you.

I was looking through Farnells catalogue last night and I found, on page
1286, Proximity Touch Alarm & Decoder. Which is basically a couple of
boards
that you plug together, and it's a ready made iButton door entry system.
You
just need the mag-locks to go with it.

They're low cost too, the "hybrid decoder" costs only 16.40, keys
are 4.78
and the receptacle is 7.88, though it's not the standard one, it looks a
little more sturdy. The relay board is the most expensive part and 32.59
