After recovering from the shock of reading the prices of commercial
units, I bought a 1.5m length of pre-punched steel rail from Maplin
and built my own small wall mounting.

The Maplin code is GK41U and costs =A311.99 for 1.5m of 19" rack rail.
As my application was just a 19" 24 port patch panel, I mounted two 6U
(1U=3D 1.75") sections on a subframe made from an old 19" device
case
and screwed this to the wall.

If you are going to use full depth 19" units such as shelving, you
will need 4 lengths of rail to form front and back supports.

Again, all this can be obtained ready made from Maplin, RS or Farnell,
however a bit of woodworking can save lots of cash.
