1: Funky - I might do that...

(Interesting Question, assuming that only 1 person uses the staircase at
a time, but that person may tread on either every step, or every other
step, how many steps need pressure pads to uniquely determine which way
that person is going up/down the stairs - I think the answer is 4, do
the rest of you agree?)

2: Same problem - the problem is one of me changing my mind after I've
already turned the thing on.

3: Forgive me Father, for I have sinned, and prefer the taste of Nescafe
Gold ;-(

1)Pressure pad or low level IR sensor on the top step of your stairs.
Depending on how big your house is the kettle might not have boiled by
the time you get there, but it saves a bit of time.

2)Play with Hal2000 or write something using Microsoft Agent such that
you can say "Put the kettle on" in the bedroom.

3)Buy a perculator and drink coffee instead
