A Salutory tale...

All, not strictly HA or comfort related, but nonetheless, possibly of
interest to any of you into Home Cinema...

I thought I'd let you all know about the EXTREMELY bad service I have
received (and am continuing to receive) from AV-Store (www.av-store.co.uk).

14 days ago, following extensive price research I tracked down the cheapest
price on the Sony STR-DB930 to AV-store, at £388 inc VAT.
Their website plainly stated that delivery on this item was next day,
implying that they had stock available for immediate dispatch.

I ordered it online on Thursday 28th October, specifying (and expecting)
delivery the following day. - I had arranged to take the Friday (29th Oct)
off work to receive several deliveries.

Naturally, the only thing I actually received from them on the 29th was a
phone call stating that they did NOT actually have any stock of the item,
and that delivery would be "in about a week"

Several days later, on the Tuesday (2nd Nov) I called them again for an
update, and was referred to the depot on another number. On contacting the
depot, I was informed that they were receiving a shipment of 50 of these
units the following Friday (5th Nov), and that they would be turned around
and dispatched "early next week". - That quite plainly implies
between
Monday 8th - Wednesday 10th Nov).

Wednesday 10th has come & gone, and I still have not had my goods, nor
any
phone calls from them. undeterred, I have attempted to call them again
today
(Thursday 11th) - I have tried to call the depot every 5 minutes for about
3
hours, and intermittently for another 3 hours - probably a good 40 or so
phone call attempts - all unsuccessfull, their depot is just not answering
the phone. I _have_ been able to contact them on the sales number, and have
done so on two seperate occasions today, each time asking for, and being
promised a call back to give me a straight answer. Needless to say, I have
recieved no phone calls from them. The second time I spoke to them (at
about
3:30PM) I expressed my annoyance, and requested (and was promised) a call
back by 5PM at the latest. As already mentioned, I did not get any such
call
back, so I called them a 3rd time today at 5:05PM, only to get an answering
machine telling me the office was closed for the day.

So, my alleged "next day" order, is now 14 days overdue, and I
still cannot
get a straight answer out of them telling me when they might feel like they
can be bothered to deliver my goods. - I get the distinct impression that
these people are a bunch of cowboys or rip-off merchants. Fortunately,
having paid by credit card, I expect I shall be covered by insurance for
the
amount should it prove necessary to reclaim.

Based on my experience to date, I would vigorously urge all of you to
excercise extreme caution should you ever consider using them. (I would NOT
recommend that you use them at all!!) - If I had selected the next cheapest
supplier, it would only have cost £5 more, and I would have had it a week
ago. (I have probably already spent that £5 difference on phone calls).

I guess the lesson to be learned here is that the cheapest price is not
always a good thing - especially if quality and service have been
sacrificed
to achieve it.

One day, my amplifier will come......(singing...) :-((

Regards all.

Paul Gordon.
