Hi All,

This sort of follows on from the "Sheds" thread regarding
technical
support/knowledge or the lack of it at non specialist retailers.

Due to the lack of a specialist washing machine supplier in my town, and
the
fact that my 10 year old washing machine sounds like a biscuit tin full of
nuts and bolts being shaken violently, I found myself in Comet buying a new
washing machine.

Choosing one was simple.
Basic machine, mechanical timer, nice fast spin.
The reasoning behind that is, simple means less to go wrong and all washing
machines are only built to last for 4 or 5 years anyway.

Anyway, whist waiting for it to be brought to the front of the store I
overheard a conversation between salesman and customer. Customer had
obviously bought a TV or Video and asked the store to tune it in for them.
Now in our area Channel 5 is unwatchable giving pictures remeniscent of
Christmas cards with snow everywhere due to the main transmitter for
channel
5 being less than 2% of the power of the other 4 channels.

Woman customer -
"Did you manage to get channel five?"

Salesman -
"Its tuned in but its not very good.....its on channel SIX !!!"

On a par with the time I heard them advise a customer that even though they
had a stereo satellite receiver and Nicam Stereo TV, using a SCART lead
would not give them stereo because "Satellite doesnt use Nicam"

Right....time to rip the old washing machine to bits and use the water
valves for some Bathtub Automation ideas that have been
"floating" around my
mind for quite a while <GROAN> ;-))
