Does anyone have a feel for how heavy curtains are?
I want some curtains that will be about 15' wide and 25' deep, and am
getting worried about the ability of an automatic system to actually carry
them unless they are very flimsy.

Hi all,
Paul is probably referring to something I mentioned a while back.
One of the guys I work with owns an Interior design business which is run
by his wife Nina. They can supply Silent Gliss curtain tracks which are
much more robust than any of the swish offerings and can be bent to fit bay
windows.
The website is at
http://www.btinternet.com/~samantha.day
and you can email on
samantha.day@xxxxxxx
I have just asked Nina and the situation is that Swish have discontinued
the Bay Window Kit but the range of Straight Electric Tracks are still in
production.
Hope that helps

No I don't, And I have these installed in my house, which is a bit
concerning...
HOWEVER - I definately remember a thread on this list about 2-3 months ago
about electric curtains, when somebody mentioned that their wife was .... a
business partner?.... or something? in a retail business near Dover??
(sorry
if I'm vague, but a LOT of lager has passed under the bridge in the last 3
months!!), which I distinctly remember thinking were a lot better than the
Swish ones, as they could be (quote) "Bent as required" - Whereas
the Swish
ones can NOT be "reverse bent" - IE go round the outside corner
of a bay
window..
(and bay windows are pretty common in the UK...)
The Swish Autoglide system requires that you purchase a "bay fitting
kit"
(for extra cost of course) for fitting into a bay, which basically
comprises
of two curved sections of track, to go round the two internal corners. They
only other track available is straight sections in various lengths, making
it impossible to draw curtains right round a bay window to the area inside
the room to the sides of the window. - My curtains, when "fully"
open (as
much as is possible with the Swish system) still block about 30 percent of
the actual glass area of the window, decreasing the light available.
I am planning therefore, to upgrade this to something that is more
flexible,
and will let me profile the track tou suit my window shape, whatever that
might be...
Regards.
PG.
(PS - whoever it was who's wife I'm thinking of, please chip in!)...
