So the subwoofer + extra amp power + extra packaging could be
conservatively priced at =A38... hmmmm
If you fancy some experimenting, get hold of a cheap amplifier- or even
build one from Maplins, get a speaker from the same place, and stick it in
a box. There are plenty of speaker design shareware packages floating
around, and a similar number of books- if you fancy some woodwork, give it
a shot!
I intend to build one into the underfloor void at some point, either that
or the chimney, but the latter might cause a bit too much soot to flow ;-)
- that would certainly fit your requirement for being unobtrusive, and
would probably sound a lot better (and definitely louder!) than the scan=
one!
If you look at a big PA system, probably half of the boxes, and half of the
amplifiers, are for the subs- it's not a small or cheap part of the system!
Basically, the system Scan are selling looks fine for playing computer
games with the speakers nearby, but I don't think it would be up to much in
the living room...
