If
only there was more configuration for wake-up events - i.e. wake when any
traffic on this port, but no such luck. The Bios has wake events >
then
options like VGA, FDD, HDD, Wake-on-ring, etc. Win2K can set the
netcard
to wake-on-LAN, but doesn't seem to wake on any generic LAN
traffic.
The
spacewalker was the barebones system discussed last week. FYI: I put
a p3
1ghz, 512 RAM, 60GB IBM Deskstar, Videologic Sonic Fury, and Pioneer black
-faced DVD ROM drive in it. It looks super cool. There's loadsa
inputs on the back and the TV outputs work great (only tried composite so
far -
still to try the SVHS).
Running about 40 degrees C so far so okay. There is *very*
little
room inside the case now after the PCI card is in. The harddrive
covers
about 1/4 of the Mobo fan, then the PCI card (resting on the memory
DIMM's!)
lays over the top of the hard drive. This is all then covered up with
the
DVD drive. So as you can imagine, system temperature is a concern,
but so
far no problems.

If
you set it to wake up on any traffic & don't have a switched network
it'll
never suspend for long due to the broadcast nature of networks. Whether you
can set this option seems to depend upon your NICs & Motherboards
BIOS.
What's a spacewalker BTW?
