Phil, have you any 'independent' comments on the PIR???

<<Other than a quick play this afternoon in the bathroom then no … I had it set up in the ceiling in the centre of the room which is about 6ft x 7ft and it seemed to reliably trip each time I turned a page on the CPC catalogue which I was reading in the bath. It also tripped fairly frequently even when I wasn’t turning pages but I think it can be “fooled” easily enough by sitting *VERY* still … not as easily though as a standard alarm PIR!

I want to get the lights finished tomorrow and then I’ll mount it in the landing ceiling which will be a better test as I want to get it turning the landing light on and off at night … something which will test it’s detection at longer distances!>>

These PIRs are excellent, however they're not the total answer to the 'holy grail' of true occupancy detection.  They will tell you if a room is occupied with (slightly) active person/people but I'm not sure if they would trigger if you fell asleep on the sofa watching TV - I think I'd be scared if I woke up cold and in the dark! :o)

<<In many ways this is a good thing ... My main need is more movement than occupancy anyway. If you fall asleep and the lights go out then not a problem … as soon as you wake up and move they’ll come on again! Heating going off is a more serious problem of course!>>

They're probably as good as we're going to get as far as reliability/cost in the near future.

<<Definitely a step forward from alarm PIRs … but obviously can’t be used for alarms as they’re too liable to false trip.>>

Phil
