Des, I have downloaded and installed DirectX v8.1 made no difference.

As for DX8 video upgrade, afraid I do not know what that is? so I guess
that
is a no?

I'll have a look, just downloading a 10MB file from ATI to see if that will
work.

I also ran the Windows Update utility and all is well from there.
