Re: [OT ish] Home Security

Hi,

Light the place up like Blackpool!

After trouble with cars here. I fitted 2 x 2D lamps (16w so economical) which are on dusk till dawn and 2 x 500 w floodlamps intelligent PIR controlled. These do not activate when a single person passes but more for anyone hanging about. All hooked into comfort & controlled by PC.

Guys,

This is probably more of a “rant” than a request for help - sorry!   Had a call from SWMBO tonight to say that someone had thrown a water bomb at the front of the house.   Needless to say it contained something worse than water!

Now after speaking to my neighbour, I suspect this is kids, as he’s had trouble too on and off for the last year.

My house faces onto a path which unfortunately makes it a target.

I’m not happy!!!

OK, rant over.

Back to home automation….

I’m now looking into ways to keep an eye on the house – and hopefully catch someone in the act.   I’ve been playing with “HomeWatcher” on and off for a while.   For those who haven’t come across it before – I’d recommend it.   It uses motion detection to take pictures when something happens and then uploads it to a website.

I have a temporary site up and running at the following location:

http://www.btinternet.com/~rasdial/webcam/overview.htm

Picture quality is low as it’s dark out now…

I guess I’m looking for advice on ways to catch the b*!%&&rs.   I’m thinking about a couple of web cams – one for night (slow frame rate) and one for day. I’m wondering how many webcams my machine can control without missing any “action”.

Also an outdoor PIR to turn on the porch light as a deterrent?

Any other ideas?  Maybe an outdoor machine gun?

Hmm.. Off to clean the front door now, and order some PIRs!

Cheers,

Nick
