Yes i ment amplified speakers to hopefully avoid problmes and i guess it being a small house that possibly 5m would do it.

I suspect you'll have some problems:
 
a) you'll very probably run out of audio level from the soundcard to drive passive speakers, soundcard amps are puny
 
b) If you use amplified speakers a long cable run may pick up noise and (more particularly) hum.
 
Though, if both the the sets of speakers are amplified, and you use stereo screened cable for the long run, it'll probably be OK!

A relative wants to put another speaker in kitchen from pc upstairs for mp3 playing.
 
Can i assume that if i give the advice to use a stereo splitter at sound card and add a second set of cheapo pc speakers via an extension cable, would be the most straight forward option ?
