Subject: RE: [KAT5] Audio quality through cat5
Hi James,
If you try to send the signal directly over CAT5 you will have very
limited
results as you will be attempting to send an unbalanced signal that
should
use screened cable over a cable designed for balanced transmission. You
may
be lucky and get 20 metres with no problems, but you could also run into
big
problems with hum pickup and ground loops.
If you use KAT5 units to convert the signals to balanced transmission,
you
will have no problems at all and will not be able to tell the difference
between the original source and the KAT5 distributed one. You will also
be
able to run for hundreds of metres with no problems whatsoever.
With standard KAT5 units you have 2 audio channels and 2 video channels.
Custom units are available to do 4 video channels or 4 audio channels or
any
mix you like.
Hope that helps
Keith
