Hi Gyre,

People tend to get them from all manner of places.

All electical wholesalers now stock CAT5 as do some of the large DIY
"sheds"
like B&Q

Cable is normally between £25-£35 per box of 305m (1000ft)

Sockets depend on what you already have in your house. I have normanl white
faceplates for all electrical accessoriers so have a wide choice of what
CAT5 outlets I choose. People with Stainless Steel or Georgian Brass style
faceplates are severly restricted in what they can choose and have to pay a
premium to get matching CAT5 faceplates.

For White faceplates I tend to use the "Mini 5" range from Rapid
Electronics
www.rapidelectronics.co.uk (you can download the catalogue as a large PDF
file). These coms as a faceplate with 4 shutters and you then buy the
modules to fit behind them. Prices come down with quantity but one off is
about £2 for the faceplate and £1-49 for the modules meaning a fully
populated 4 port faceplate is around £8 +vat all in the space of a single
gang faceplate. You do need a deep box though. They also do patch pannels
and patch cords at good prices and the service is excellent. Order today by
7pm and you will normally have it by tomorrow.
