RE: KAT5 question

Hi keith,

I have tried this

DVD(svideo)->kat5 t/x -> kat5 r/x -> projector (get the same
problem)
Ntl box -> rgb/svideo converter -> kat5 t/x -> kat 5 r/x ->
projector
(same problem)

On the r/x kat5 I have one of this scart to s-video breakout adapters
which may be something I need to rule out so I am going to get a lead
(scart to svideo) to see if the is the problem.

Keith one suggestion would be to have s-video and photo connectors on
the boxes as the scart can be a pain. Maybe have an option. I don't know
how diffuclt this would be.

Will be in touch

Hi Amar,

I do know why you get the RED Picture.

Your KAT5 units are AVS designed to carry S-Video and Stereo.

They expect...
Composite Video or Y/C_Luma on Pin 20/19 (IN/OUT)
Y/C_Chroma on Pin 15
Left Audio on 6/3 (IN/OUT)
Right Audio on 2/1 (IN/OUT)

By comparison, RGB is actually 4 video signals

Composite Sync on Pin 20/19 (IN/OUT) [Same as above]
Red Video on Pin 15 [Same pin as used by Y/C_Chroma]
Green Video on Pin 11 [KAT5 AVS does not use this pin]
Blue Video on Pin 7 [KAT5 AVS does not use this pin]

which explains why you get a Red picture as you have an RGB signal
without the Green and Blue!

I dont know why you get the instability problem with the

NTL_RGB2SVideo_KAT5TX_CAT5_KAT5RX_Projector setup.

Several people are happliy using the RGB2SVideo converters with KAT5.
Is it ONLY the projector that suffers this problem ?
Is it ONLY when using NTL as the source ?

What happens if you try

DVD_RGB2SVideo_KAT5TX_CAT5_KAT5RX_Projector

or

DVD(SVideo)_KAT5TX_CAT5_KAT5RX_Projector

or

PC-TVout(S-Video)_KAT5TX_CAT5_KAT5RX_Projector

Subject: RE: [KAT5] KAT5 question

Keith,

I have tried a few wiring ideas with the kat5 and found something really
interesting. I wired my ntl box (sending rgb) through kat5 to my
projector. At the projector end I put a terminated kat5 receiver, the
output of which I put into a rgb2svideo converter. What I get on the
screen is a red picture. Why is that ?

However if I wire the rgb2svideo converter to the output of the ntl box
and send the s-video signal down the kat5 and get a picture (with the
flickering problem) on the other side.
