You don't even need an old screen ... Use a sheet of MDF for the
projection surface and paint it matt white ... It's the painting that's
difficult!

The important bit is you need a sharp deliniation of reflective to
non-reflective surface at the edge of the screen. Edging the projection
area with skirting board wrapped in black velvet is extremely effective!
