Hi Dan,

You are correct that the IR reception and transmission will be external to
the units. There will be a 3.5mm jack fitted to the units to take the
external parts.

For the AVS-TX it will need an IR mini-emitter. I do not have the means to
manufacture these but the units will work with commercially available
emitters or you can follow the tutorial on www.diyha.co.uk to make your
own.
I will possibly offer a pack with all the bits you need to make the
emmitter
(except tools and hot glue!) for those who would prefer that option.

For the AVS-RX it will need an IR Receiver module. There will probably be
two options.
1. a parts pack so that you can solder a receiver onto the end of the cable
and heatshrink the connections.
2. The above ready assembled.
3. A fully assembed and cased receiver consisting of a small black plastic
box with red perspex window. This would have an acknowlege LED to indicate
reception of IR.

Obviously a *one piece* solution would be better especially for the
receiver
but the current design does not have the physical space to accomodate this.
I am considering a totally different case for future versions of the IR
capable units.

I have had several requests for units with Phono and Minidin. I will
probably go for a slightly larger case which will enable me to put all the
connectors on the rear panel and have Phono, S-Video AND SCART on all
units.

The front would be an Red Perspex IR window for the receiver and will
possibly have the option of a source display when used with the switcher.

I dont want to abandon the SCART despite the fact that the connector is not
particularly well designed because it allows for auto switching of the TV
which is a very friendly feature.

Hope that helps

Keith

Hi Keith,

I plan to use the IR KAT5 for Node0 --> Lounge for:

- NTL box
- IR Keyboard (old Netstation variety) to PC
- X10 Transceiver unit
- Denon Amp/DVD

All these currently run fine from the pronto, so hopefully there should not
be too much problem. Do your beta testers have good enough coverage for
these products, or would you like further beta testing from myself :) ?

Regarding the actual IR element of the modules, how is the IR gotten in/out
of the modules? Do we have to plug in an external emitter/receiver at each
end, or are they built into the KAT5 modules? (I presume the former).

Regards,
-Dan
