Re: TV audio onto HiFi via Kat5?

Hi Nick,

As Mark has already said, the lack of TV sound is almost certainly
down to incorrect connection. At work we have two identical looking
SCART to 6phono leads that are marked opposite to each other.

KAT5 is designed for LineLevel audio not the output of a cartridge.
The impedance and levels will be incorrect so will not give
satisfatory results.

IMHO, Linn have made a BIG mistake if they have adopted non standard
wiring for their interface. Any home that has structured cable will
distribute the signal over split pairs giving rise to crosstalk and
external interference. The whole concept of CAT5 Structured Cabling
is that any device can be simply plugged into the nearest sockets and
patched.

There is no difference between T568A and T568B other than the
Orange/Green pairs are transposed. Electrically they are identical,
just dont wire T568A at one end and T568B at the other ;-)

KAT5 uses the following

Pair1 Blue 4&5 Left Audio
Pair2 Orange 1&2 Video/Luma
Pair3 Green 3&6 Right Audio
Pair4 Brown 7&8 Chroma

HTH

Keith
